Buddhism

Buddhism is broadly recognized as being composed of two major branches: Theravada, which has a widespread following in Southeast Asia, and Mahayana (including Zen, Shingon and Tebetan Buddhism), found throughout throughout East Asia (www.wikipedia.com).

In Thailand, Theravada is sub-divided into Thammayut and Mahanikaai. Recently another variety seems to have emerged out of the two, the so-called 'Thammakaai', which seems to me like a blend or hybrid between the former two, at least as its name suggests (Thamma- + -kaai).
