A brief explanation of the whole process of international trade!

It all starts with an importer placing an order to a foreign exporter. The exporter issues a Pro Forma for the importer to check and confirm. After the Pro Forma is confirmed, the exporter then hands it over along with the Packing List and a Commercial Invoice (Export Invoice) to a Freight Forwarder. Upon receipt of both documents, the Freight Forwarder then sends a Manifest to the importer to check and confirm. Once the manifest is confirmed, the Freight Forwarder arranges for international transportation carriers, issues Bill of Lading (for ship) or Air Waybill (for plane) to its customs office at the port of departure, and make payment of estimated duties. The freight is then loaded on board the ship or the plane and shipped to the importer's customs office waiting to be released at the arrival port. An Arrival Notice is then sent to the importer by the Freight Forwarder upon arrival of the merchandise in the port. Then, the importer assigns customs broker to make clearance at the port. Documents needed for clearance along with payment of estimated duties are (1) Bill of Lading (a copy sent by the Freight Forwarder), (2) Commercial Invoices (a copy sent by the exporter), and (3) Entry Form as required by the Thai customs. Once entry has been made, the customs broker instructs the trucking company to pick up the merchandise from the international transportation carrier and deliver it to the importer's premise(s).
